To honor former LACMA president Marshall T. Morgan’s legacy of support for Prehospital and Emergency Medicine, the Los Angeles County Medical Association has established The Marshall T. Morgan, M.D., Memorial Scholarship.
Dr. Marshall Morgan was a Professor of Medicine and Chief of Emergency Medicine at UCLA for 34 years and President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association 2013-2014. He was recognized by colleagues, staff and students as an outstanding leader, educator and a compassionate physician, who always had a calming voice, inviting smile, gentle demeanor, and an enduring passion for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Throughout his life, Dr. Morgan was committed to helping the underserved and disenfranchised not only through direct patient care, but also by sharing his wisdom and by supporting the education of students, physicians, nurses and EMS personnel.
Three Marshall Morgan Scholarships will be awarded annually: One to a Paramedic student, and two to EMT students. The Paramedic scholarship will award up to $3000, and the EMT scholarships will award up to $1500. Awards will first cover any outstanding course fees, with the balance available to cover course materials or other costs of attendance.
Applications for both programs may be submitted online between February 8 and April 1. Applicants for the Paramedic scholarship must already have applied and been admitted to a UCLA Paramedic program. Applicants for the EMT scholarship may enroll in an available EMT program after the scholarship is awarded. All applicants will need to provide the following:
- Two letters of recommendation: one personal, and one professional.
- A 300-500 word essay describing how the scholarship will benefit the applicant and their community.
All applicants must be able, at the end of their program, to meet all Los Angeles County requirements for licensing as an EMT or accreditation as a Paramedic. Licensing/accreditation requirements are available at the LADHS web site.
(You will be prompted to log in or create an account if you have not already.)
