The UCLA Paramedic Education Program hosted 32 paramedic students from Osaka Medical College in Osaka, Japan, on Monday, March 14. The second-year paramedic students were here in the United States to learn about the American EMS system.

Dr. Heather Davis, UCLA Paramedic Program Director, provided an overview of the EMS System and educational requirements for paramedic licensure in the U.S. Paramedic Class 51 then demonstrated how they practice total call management in preparation for the national licensing exam.

Clinical Instructors Tracy Bartolomo and Gillian Griffin guided the Japanese students through two advanced medical procedures unfamiliar to the students, endotracheal intubation using the Bougie and needle thoracostomy, a life-saving skill for patients suffering a tension pneumothorax.
