Lyn Riley Awarded State of California EMS Distinguished Service Award

Congratulations to Ms. Lyn Riley on receiving the State of California EMS Distinguished Service Award!

During her 40 year career in EMS, Lyn has provided instruction to students in EMT, Paramedic, and Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICN) working in ambulance companies, fire departments, and hospitals. She has the unique ability to both challenge and inspire students as well as break down complex protocols and body systems into understandable parts so the key learning objectives stick with the providers sitting in her classrooms. Because of her effective teaching style and tenure, few people in the greater Los Angeles area have not had the benefit of receiving some form of education from Lyn.

Lyn has worked as an Emergency Department Nurse, Prehospital Liaison Nurse, MICN, Prehospital Care Coordinator and Fire Department Nurse Educator and Program Director. Lyn pioneered the role of nursing in fire departments. Initially responding to fire departments’ need for continuing education, Lyn created a quality improvement and ride-along program that grew into a standard among fire departments in the Southern California. In 2001, she became part of the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care where she continued to grow the division that now serves some 22 fire departments and law enforcement agencies.

Numerous fire chiefs, her UCLA colleagues and the Los Angeles County EMS Agency leadership provided letters of support to recognize her professional contributions and distinguished career. Please join us in congratulating Lyn on her contributions to EMS, fire departments, EMTs and Paramedics and the patients they serve!
