About the Derrick Schiller Memorial Scholarship

Derrick Schiller dreamed of being a firefighter-paramedic and following in the footsteps of his father, Ray, since he was a young child. Derrick was an extremely hard-working, forthright, optimistic and compassionate young man with a great sense of humor. He proudly served the community as an EMT with AmeriCare while putting himself through the UCLA Paramedic Education Program where he graduated from in January 2017. Derrick continued his work as a Paramedic for AMR while testing with all the local fire departments. On August 10, 2017, Derrick passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

To honor Derrick’s memory, his parents, Vicki and Ray, have established the Derrick Schiller Memorial Scholarship to support the education of future students like Derrick at the UCLA Paramedic Education Program. The scholarship will provide up to $3,500 to assist with course fees or other expenses, and is open to private (non-department-sponsored) students from a family with a paramedic or firefighter. If you would like to honor Derrick's memory and support legacy paramedics, please use the button below to contribute to the Derrick Schiller Memorial Scholarship.
